President Petro Poroshenko agreed with the leaders of the United States, Germany, France, Great Britain and Italy that Friday March 5 will be a key day regarding the choice between the peace plan and “another option,” which Poroshenko calls “decisive de-escalation.”
The head of state stated this while approaching the press in Newport (Wales, UK), where the NATO summit is taking place on September 4-5.
According to him, the subject of discussion was a draft decision, which should be adopted at the level of the “tripartite contact group” with the participation of representatives of illegal armed groups.
“On Friday at 2 p.m., a meeting of the tripartite contact group should take place, at which a document should be signed that provides for the phased introduction of the peace plan. And the first element in it will be a ceasefire,” Poroshenko said.
“If the meeting is confirmed, if it takes place, I will give instructions to the leadership of the General Staff for a bilateral ceasefire and we hope that the implementation of the peace plan will begin tomorrow (September 5-EuroPravda),” he promised.
The President emphasized that it was agreed with the leaders of the leading NATO countries that if negotiations fail, another option could be launched, calling it “decisive action.”
“If this does not happen, then (the likelihood of) our decisive actions to de-escalate the conflict is very high. But we want peace,” the president added.
The president did not provide other details of the plan, which could be adopted on Friday.
