Pashinyan believes that his resignation will worsen the situation in Armenia

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that he would resign if it would improve the situation in the country. However, from his point of view, leaving office will lead to the exact opposite result.

“If I know that all challenges will be resolved by my resignation, I will do it in the next second. Unlike you, I am not addicted to the chair. But all my analysis shows that if I do this, the exact opposite will happen,” TASS agency quotes Pashinyan as saying.

In addition, the chairman of the Armenian Cabinet stated that he is ready to conclude a peace treaty with Azerbaijan.

“Until the last moment and even today, we confirmed the visit to Granada. I would like to note that we were very constructive and optimistic, because we believed that it was possible to sign a landmark document. It turned out that the planned meeting would not take place through no fault of ours. We hope that the concept document that is on the table will be signed at the appropriate time. I am ready to sign this document. I’m sorry that tomorrow I won’t have the opportunity to announce such an important decision,” the politician emphasized.

The internal political situation in Armenia has worsened in recent weeks against the backdrop of the events in Karabakh. Rallies are being held in Yerevan, the opposition is demanding the resignation of the government.

On September 19, Azerbaijan began launching attacks on the territory of the unrecognized republic. According to the Azerbaijani side, this was preceded by artillery shelling of the positions of Azerbaijani forces. The Armenian Ministry of Defense denied this information.

On September 20, the government in the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic decided on a ceasefire. Yerevan supported this decision.

On the same day, six Russian peacekeepers were killed in small arms fire.

On September 24, a mass exodus of the Armenian population from the territory of Karabakh began.

On September 28, the president of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, Samvel Shahramanyan, signed a decree ending its existence from January 1, 2024.
