The Main Directorate of Internal Security of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, with the participation of the FSB, is conducting checks in police departments in the Central District of Moscow due to a data leak commissioned by Ukrainian citizens, a source in the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the capital told RBC.
“Operational activities took place in almost all police departments of the Central District. The inspectors carried out seizures of documentation and computer information, ”a source told RBC.
According to investigators, unknown people could get other people’s passwords to enter information systems, from where the data they needed was downloaded. “It is assumed that among the customers were citizens of Ukraine,” the source added.
The first about the checks of the CAO police due to data leaks, including security officials and judges, was reported by the telegram channel Baza, citing several sources. This was also reported by TASS.
The channel notes that the leak of “sensitive information” was noticed in the middle of spring and the officers of the Internal Affairs Directorate for the Central Administrative District fell under suspicion. According to sources, they were engaged in a paid “breakthrough” for clients from the Internet, which was used by Ukrainians.
They decided to check the police officers and conducted an operational experiment, during which they ordered information about employees of the Moscow prosecutor’s office via the darknet. The “service” was provided and confirmed suspicions that the data was “breaking through” in the Internal Affairs Directorate in the Central Administrative District, the channel notes.
Orders for “breaking through” were distributed from the Central Administrative District and to other districts and districts, and they did not know that they were participating in the “drain” of data, the channel reports.
According to Baza, as a result of checks, several police officers were detained, including those in the Tagansky district and Arbat offices.
RBC sent requests to the press center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia and the Center for Public Relations of the FSB.
