The owner of “Media Post” was arrested for extortion from the general director of the Stavropol “Gazprom”.

In Stavropol, on suspicion of extortion, the founder and director of Media Post LLC Marina Tronevskaya was detained. The detention was carried out as part of a criminal investigation against the director and advertising agent of the Kavkaz Post electronic media outlet, who are suspected of extorting 1.7 million rubles. Oleg Maslin, General Director of Gazprom Mezhregiongaz Stavropol LLC, for not distributing compromising evidence about him online. The case was opened in the fall of 2022.

According to the department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the region, it was found that “during several months in the course of repeated meetings and telephone conversations”, employees of Kavkaz Post “under the threat of dissemination in the media of information that could cause significant harm to the rights and legitimate interests of an employee of a commercial organization, extorted 1.7 million rubles from him. The case was then initiated against the general director of Media Post LLC Ekaterina Cherkasova, advertising agent Evgenia Ksirova, who acted in the interests of the Kavkaz Post online publication and another “unidentified person”.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs also explained that at the moment “the involvement of the suspects in the commission of a similar illegal act has been established”: “They extorted 50 thousand rubles from an employee of another organization for not posting information.” According to the police headquarters, the “illegal activities” of media workers “were revealed by the FSB of the region and the criminal investigation department of the regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.”

As a result, at the request of the investigation, Mrs. Tronevskaya was “imprisoned”, and Ekaterina Cherkasova and Yevgeniya Ksirova were “imprisoned” by the court.

Mrs. Tronevskaya was placed in custody, having been charged with an episode three years ago, when she allegedly extorted 50 thousand rubles during a personal meeting. at the post office. All three are also charged with extortion committed by a group of persons by prior agreement on an especially large scale (Article 163 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). Punishment under this article provides for imprisonment for a term of 7 to 15 years.

The head of Media Post, commenting on the initiation of a criminal case a year ago, explained that the investigation interprets as extortion the usual negotiation process for concluding an advertising contract in the interests of the Kavkaz Post, which was a “standard procedure for providing price offers.”

The protection of journalists has already prepared an appeal to the regional court on the illegality of initiating a criminal case and placing Mrs. Tronevskaya in custody.
