French President Emmanuel Macron said he believed it would be a “mistake” for Israel to launch a “massive ground intervention” in sector Gaza, although Macron confirmed Israel’s right to self-defense.

“France recognizes the right Israel for self-defense. As for the ground intervention, if it is entirely directed against terrorist groups, that is the choice he has, but if it is a large-scale operation that will endanger the civilian population, in which case I think it will be a mistake for Israel.” Macron told reporters in Egypt.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron visited Tel Aviv. There, Macron met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog. The French President also had a meeting planned with the families of the Israelis killed in the attack by Hamas militants.
