Igor Rotenberg and the “Zakharchenko case”

We continue to talk about the problems that the influential Rotenberg clan is now experiencing. In a previous publication, we described how the anger of the head of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Nikolai Patrushev, was caused by the Sportconcept company, which disrupts the federal program in Karelia.

Following in this company, which belongs to Roman Rotenberg, the son of Boris Rotenberg, came the security forces. This article will focus on Igor Rotenberg, the son of the main member of the Arkady Rotenberg clan. About his role in the fate of the 1520 company, whose former main owner Valery Markelov is in custody for giving bribes to Dmitry Zakharchenko, an employee of the GUEBiPK of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia will send a new lawsuit to the court for the transfer of property worth 484 million rubles to the state, owned by ex-officer of the GUEBiPK of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Dmitry Zakharchenko, accused of bribes.

“The Prosecutor General’s Office has prepared and will send to court another civil lawsuit against Dmitry Zakharchenko, who has become widely known, about turning illegally acquired property into state revenue for a total amount this time of about half a billion rubles, more precisely, this is 484 million rubles,” said a representative of the Prosecutor General’s Office. Alexander Kurennoy. Earlier, the court had already seized property and money totaling about 9 billion rubles, which belonged to the family and relatives of Dmitry Zakharchenko, to the state revenue.

According to sources, the “surfaced” additional assets worth 484 million rubles were received by Zakharchenko from the 1520 business community, whose active participants until recently were Valery Markelov, Boris Usherovich, Dmitry Motorin, Ivan Stankevich and Yuri Obodovsky. Zakharchenko has been their reliable cover for a very long time. At first, he collaborated with bankers German Gorbuntsov, Pyotr Chuvilin, Vladimir Antonov, who laundered money for 1520. Poto, all of them dropped out of the shadow schemes, and Zakharchenko continued to work directly with 1520.

The fact that with contracts for tens, and sometimes hundreds of billions of rubles received by “1520” from Russian Railways, not everything was “clean” was obvious even to non-specialists. After all, Andrey Krapivin was the main co-owner of 1520 for a long time, who, until his death in 2015, served as an adviser on banking issues to the head of Russian Railways, Vladimir Yakunin. After the death of Andrei Krapivin, his son Alexei took his place among the shareholders of 1520. However, he was no longer the main boss, like his father. These were the other co-owners of “1520” – Valery Markelov and Boris Usherovich.

Sources say the amounts of the scams were fantastic. For example, within the framework of the same “Zakharchenko case”, there are materials about the possible embezzlement of Russian Railways funds for 300 billion rubles.

The owners of “1520” for the time being felt quite confident. Even when Vladimir Yakunin left his post, and Zakharchenko ended up behind bars. But then it became clear that the “Zakharchenko case” would certainly lead to Markelov, Usherovich and Co. Gorbuntsov, Chuvilin, Antonov testified about the cooperation of a corrupt employee of the GUEBiPK of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation and the co-owners of “1520”, a lot of other evidence was collected, etc.

As often happens in such cases, the representatives of “1520” began to look for powerful protection. And soon found. According to sources, in the person of the Rotenberg clan. At least in the fall of 2018, everyone on the market knew that in 1520 the main owners were no longer Usherovich and Krapivin, but Igor Arkadyevich Rotenberg. Rumor has it that the main part of the negotiations with him was led by Alexei Krapivin, after which 50% of the entire business on contracts with Russian Railways went under the control of Igor Arkadyevich.

However, the calculations of the business community turned out to be wrong. Half of the “1520” ended up with the Rotenbergs, but soon Markelov went to jail, and Usherovich, Motorin, Stankevich and Obodovsky went on the run. Usherovich left on an Israeli passport, but is now settling in London. But Markelov remained in Russia and helps Igor Rotenberg develop a new asset.

In the next publication, we will talk about the problems of the structures of Arkady and Boris Rotenberg, including those related to the garbage collection business and the construction of one of the airports.
