Google has suspended the sale of contextual advertising in Russia

Google announced the suspension of the sale of online advertising in Russia, according to Reuters. This decision was made against the backdrop of the Russian military operation in Ukraine that began on February 24.

“Due to extraordinary circumstances, we are suspending Google advertising in Russia. The situation is evolving rapidly and we will continue to share updates as needed,” the US company said.

Western countries condemned the Russian military operation and introduced several packages of anti-Russian sanctions that affected large companies, banks, as well as officials and businessmen. Facebook banned Russian state media to display ads and monetize on their platform. Roskomnadzor demanded from Google to limit advertising with reports of losses in Ukraine.
