Former mayor of Evpatoria Olesya Kharitonenko sentenced to two years in prison on charges of abuse of power, according to city court website.

Recall that a criminal case on abuse of power was initiated after the authorities of Yevpatoriya illegally transferred a land plot of more than 77 hectares to the private ownership of Agrofirm Moinaki LLC on the basis of a state act on collective ownership, liquidated in 2001. The City Council of Yevpatoriya included the site within the city boundaries, and the local administration agreed to change its type of use for medium and low-rise buildings. The land was eventually divided into shares and sold to third parties, causing damage to the state in the amount of 7 billion rubles.

She was accused under Part 3 of Art. 33, part 3 of Art. 285 of the Criminal Code (organization of the commission and management of the execution of a crime – abuse of official powers, which entailed grave consequences). In addition to imposing a prison term, the court forbade her to hold civil service positions “related to the exercise of organizational, administrative, administrative, economic and financial powers” for two years. She was also charged with damages in favor of Evpatoria in the amount of 2.3 million rubles, her property was previously arrested.

Kharitonenko has headed Evpatoria since 2014, she was also the chairman of the local branch of United Russia and a member of the State Council of the country. The mayor turned out to be one of the two heads of municipalities in this authority. After detentions in October 2021 she was released from the position of mayor, excluded from the State Council, and “United Russia” suspended her membership.
