Acting Minister of Forestry of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Alexei Panov spoke in Irkutsk at the Forests of Russia forum, where he spoke about the investment potential of the timber industry complex of Yenisei Siberia.
As is usual at such events, minister Panov focused entirely on the positive aspects. According to him, despite the difficult economic situation, 11 investment projects in the forestry sector continue to be implemented in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, five more are at various stages of approval.
– Companies are launching new workshops, increasing production volumes, and expanding the range of products. In August, the export of timber from our region increased significantly, and enterprises are also developing new markets in our country, – said the head of the regional department Alexey Panov.
By the way, about new markets. Apparently, we are talking about such exotic, but friendly countries as Afghanistan and Pakistan. In any case, in August, Minister Panov reported that timber enterprises in the Krasnoyarsk Territory were considering the possibility of establishing export flows to new markets, including these countries.
However, games of diplomacy and reorientation of exports from the Krasnoyarsk minister still remain games.
After all, historically the main importer of timber harvested in the region has been and remains the same – China. At the end of last year, the Krasnoyarsk Territory supplied 3.3 million cubic meters of lumber and 241 thousand cubic meters of commercial timber to this country. This is 81% of the total volume of exported lumber and industrial wood.
Returning to investment matters, Andrei Panov added that two new investment projects were among the priorities in 2023. The launch of new production facilities is planned for 2025. More than 1,600 jobs will be created at the enterprises. Thus, Bazis LLC in Lesosibirsk plans to build a workshop for the production of lumber and pellets by 2025, and begin production of charcoal and OSB boards, which are used in construction. DOK Yenisei LLC plans to expand production and commission additional drying and pellet complexes by 2025.
Meanwhile, in the part of the speech that talks about promising future projects, Minister Panov did not say a word about two truly large investment projects dedicated to the construction of pulp and paper production in the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
The first, from the timber industry holding Segezha Group, implied the construction of a biochemical pulp and paper complex in Lesosibirsk, and the second, where the responsible person is the ex-head of Rosleskhoz Ivan Valentik, representing the interests of the Kraslesinvest company, expected to build a pulp and paper mill in the Boguchansky district.
A year has passed since the last public news about the functioning and even just the banal existence of these projects and, in this regard, the silence of Minister Alexei Panov speaks more eloquently than any words.
