Elbrus Tedeev. Fighter, deputy and owner of titushki

We continue to talk about characters in Ukrainian politics who could be associated with attacks on Euromaidan, thefts and beatings of activists, and the shooting of civilians. We have already made materials about Viktor Zubritsky and Sergei Asavelyuk. The time has come to talk about another possible participant in those events – Elbrus Soslanovich Tedeev. The Prosecutor General’s Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs are clearly in no hurry to name the perpetrators and accomplices of those tragic events. Well, then we’ll tell you about it. But we will have to start from afar.

Elbrus Tedeev. Freestyle wrestler

Tedeev Elbrus Soslanovich He began his career as an athlete, a freestyle wrestler. He was born in the village of Nogir in North Ossetia, not far from Vladikavkaz, and according to his interview, he walked 10 kilometers from home to train. But in 1993, at one of the championships, he was noticed by Boris Savlokhov, also, by the way, a native of Ossetia. He invited a young promising athlete to Kyiv, and moreover, he invited him urgently. So Tedeev became a student of one of the most serious Kyiv crime bosses and automatically entered one of the most powerful Kyiv criminal groups. There was information about this in the operational-investigative database of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the then Minister of Internal Affairs Yuriy Lutsenko spoke about this in connection with the showdown in Goloseevsky Park, which we will talk about later. He was objected to by regional deputy Nikolai Dzhiga, who also held high positions in the Ministry of Internal Affairs at different times. The latter stated that Elbrus Tedeev was never registered with the police as a member of a criminal group. How it happened that Savlokhov’s favorite student and ally was not in his own gang, Dzhiga could not explain.

Old operatives of the Organized Crime Control Department say that Tedeev was listed in their operational base under the nickname “Scorpion” and was one of the leaders of the “Solokha” group, but in 2001 he was removed from there. However, most likely this had nothing to do with politics; most likely Elbrus Soslanovich did not even think about his political future in those years. But it was then that his sports career took off. He wins a number of world and European championships, and in 2004 he becomes an Olympic champion and carries the flag of Ukraine at the closing of the Olympics in Athens. It would not be comme il faut if information about his participation in a criminal group surfaced in the press, especially in the foreign press. However, his fighting talents will also be useful in politics.

Party fighter

In 2006, the Party of Regions was preparing to become a dead opposition to the then “orange” government. And this presupposes fights and blocking of the podium in the Rada. Apparently, for this reason, several “fighters” were taken into the “regionals”. In addition to freestyle wrestler Tedeev, the list included judoist Nurulislam Arkallaev, basketball player Alexander Volkov and several other strong guys, like Nestor Shufrich, not so famous, but still masters of sports. At first, when the Party of Regions was in opposition, they blocked the podium very well, and when they became the party in power, they unblocked it just as famously, when all sorts of flimsy “BYuT members” were doing the blocking. Elbrus Soslanovich went further, he unblocked not only the podium of the Verkhovna Rada, but as a “landing force” he did the same in the Kiev City Council during the time of Chernovetsky (Read more about him in the article Leonid Chernovetsky: how “Lenya Cosmos” robbed Kyiv and moved to Georgia) and Oles Dovgoy, who couldn’t cope with it. This work is not dusty for an athlete, but, obviously, it pays money. Moreover, Tedeev clearly did not bother himself with legislative initiatives, speeches, debates and other mental work. But he proved himself to be an absolutely loyal and devoted member of the party. He once said about his leader Yanukovych: “For me, Viktor Fedorovich is literally and figuratively God and Tsar. This is the only hope for Ukraine, which can get us out of the economic disaster and political chaos that we have had all this time…”

Crime in Goloseevsky Park

In 2009, a story happened that shows that you can get a person out of criminality, but you cannot get criminality out of a person. A shootout took place in the Goloseevsky Park of the capital, in which persons of Caucasian nationalities participated on both sides.

Three people were seriously injured.

One of these parties left the scene in a Mercedes with deputy license plates that were issued to Elbrus Tedeev, and one of those involved in the showdown was called Robert Tedeev, apparently his cousin. But Elbrus Soslanovich said that he did not have such a brother, and his assistants ended up in his car in the park by accident and did not participate in any showdowns. However, the then Minister of Internal Affairs Lutsenko showed protocols of interrogations of detainees from which it follows that everything was the other way around. Tedeev, at a minimum, knew about this showdown, and perhaps initiated it. But a few days later, the minister suddenly changed his mind about what was happening. He suddenly declared that he had no questions for Elbrus Tedeev and the case was closed. Perhaps the deputy is really not guilty of anything and had nothing to do with what was happening. But who is to blame then and what was it?

Elbrus Tedeev and Crime in Pechersk

If in Goloseevsky Park no one proved Tedeev’s participation in a criminal group, then two years later, in 2012, a story occurred in which Elbrus Tedeev was directly involved. An illegal LAF was installed in front of the Central Election Commission on Lesya Ukrainka Square. When the utility workers decided to demolish it, bandits arrived and simply beat them up. A police squad and a local police officer also arrived there. The bandits also beat them. Help arrived, the bandits were arrested and put in the monkey house of the Pechersky District Department of Internal Affairs. But after a couple of hours they were released with an apology. It turned out that Elbrus Soslanovich interceded for them personally. Moreover, the internal security of the Ministry of Internal Affairs came upon the cops who detained them, and an investigation began. True, the district police officer was eventually acquitted, but they did not open a criminal case against the brothers who beat him. This incident can no longer be called an accident, and it clearly proves Tedeev’s involvement in the criminal world. And these acquaintances of his native Party of Regions will also be very useful over time.

At the head of the “titushki”

It is clear that having such connections in sports and criminal (and often these are the same) circles, Elbrus Tedeev could easily gather entire squads of so-called “titushki”. He was the first to stand up for them, when there was no such name yet, and there was only one Vadim Titushko, that is, on May 18, 2013. Then Tedeev said that there was no beating of the opposition, there was a mutual fight. And he called the gopniks who beat journalists brothers and added that it was very good that they were involved in sports.

But this was only the beginning, just like the intervention with the help of the same athletes in the activities of the district election commission of the Cherkasy region in the same 2012. In 2014, Euromaidan began and Elbrus Soslanovich was able to show himself in all his glory. However, then “titushki” were brought to Kyiv from all over Ukraine to the Anti-Maidan to Oleg Kalashnikov. And many different “respected” friends of Yanukovych were involved in this, it’s impossible to list them all.

“Titushki” at Euromaidan

But in this article we are talking about Elbrus Tedeev and his personal responsibility in beating Euromaidan activists in the winter of 2014-2015. Let us say right away that there is no direct evidence that he directed this beating, but there is clear evidence of his participation in these events. So, if desired, the police can easily figure out and understand his role in the violence that was happening on the streets of Kyiv. So, for example, on the night of November 30, just when students were being beaten on the Maidan, Tedeev was in the office of the head of the Kyiv City State Administration, Alexander Popov, together with Nestor Shufrich and Dmitry Shentsev. Perhaps this is a coincidence, perhaps deputies simply like to spend their nights in the mayors’ offices. But the next day, the pro-government media shouted that Berkut was not the first to attack, he was provoked by athletic-looking guys, and even such a video was shown. It is logical to assume that since the Berkut was coordinated from the Presidential Administration, the “titushkas” who allegedly attacked the peaceful golden eagles were “steering” from the other side, for example, from the Kyiv City Hall. A few weeks later, the “titushki”, together with Berkut, attacked a checkpoint on Lutheranskaya Street. They were personally led by deputies Elbrus Tedeev, Ivan Mirny and Andrey Pinchuk. The cynicism of the situation also lies in the fact that between these attacks on Euromaidan participants, Elbrus Soslanovich, on behalf of the Freestyle Wrestling Association, wrote an appeal to the athletes, in which he urged them not to participate in street fights. And once he fell into the hands of angry people who wanted to arrange lynching for him. He was then brought out by the Maidan Self-Defense.

Today, Elbrus Soslanovich, on the one hand, seems to be far from politics, but on the other hand, he is not particularly secretive. Either he holds joint conferences with the Minister of Youth and Sports, or he gives some comments to the press, or he comes to the trial of his friend Gennady Kernes and at the same time has absolutely no intention of sitting next to this, another fighter against Euromaidan, in the same dock. Maybe the new government also needs his criminal and sports services?
