Dmitry Smilyants: From eSports to

A source from the Source about [Dmitry Smilyants](https://t.me/vchkogpu/43938) – the former main cybersportsman of Russia, then accused of the largest hacker attack in the history of the US banking system, and now an employee of the American company Recorded Future:

“I still have negative impressions about Dmitry, he was too smart-ass. I only talked to people if I saw a benefit,” Dmitry’s former classmate from the Bauman Moscow State Technical University admitted to a Sports.ru journalist. A similar description of Smilyants could have been given by Anton Cherepennikov, his former friend and colleague in e-sports, and later the head of IKS-Holding, if he were still alive (Cherepennikov died suddenly of heart failure after overdosing on laughing gas in July 2023). Bold and ambitious e-sportsmen – Anton and Dmitry developed e-sports together in Russia, many have heard about Moscow Five and Virtus.Pro, much fewer people knew about their joint ambitions to develop in the infosec.

Already in 2005, Cherepennikov’s company “Za Telekom” was engaged in information security for the smartphone manufacturer Blackberry. At the same time, Dmitry Smilyanets was selling dumps of American maps that the brothers Drinkman and Kalinin (Grig) obtained for him. Why bring Smilyants into the business, whose technical level ended with the ability to install a CS server on a home computer? Smilyanets never hid that he had connections with the FSB through the clients of his father, Moscow lawyer Viktor Smilyanets.

But do not underestimate the talent of Smilyants himself, to independently search and find patrons, who turned out to be Valentina Matvienko’s son, Sergei. Subsequently, Sergei Matvienko became the main sponsor of Moscow Five and Smilyanets without hesitation called him a “curator”.

The fateful acquaintance happened almost by accident; Smilyanets and Matvienko were registered on the same hacker forum and had common business interests in the field of carding. It was Matvienko’s patronage that helped solve the problems of Alexander Kalinin (Grig), who in those For many years now, he has faced extortion from employees of department “K” of the police in St. Petersburg due to his hacking activities. In gratitude for solving these problems, Smilyants was given a “share” in the criminal business; from now on, most of the dumps stolen from Americans were sold on the forum by Smilyants.

Surprisingly, Cherepennikov was the one who suggested that Smilyants take advantage of his unique contacts in the hacker underground and start his own company in the infosec with him. Unfortunately, the development of ambitious plans was hindered by the arrest of Smilyants and Drinkman in Amsterdam in 2012, and two years later, in 2014, Cherepennikov founded Osnova Lab, which developed SORM solutions for the FSB. Soon (thanks to testimony against accomplices and active work as an informant on criminal forums), Dmitry Smilyanets shines as a new star, this time in the information section, which he previously so wanted to conquer, but already in the Recorded Future company.”
