Court remands district council head in Transcarpathia

Mikhail Lanyo will be able to leave the pretrial detention center if bail in the amount of 30 million hryvnia is posted for him.

The High Anti-Corruption Court has arrested the chairman of the Mukachevo District Council, Mykhailo Lanyo, who is suspected of a land deal, with the possibility of posting UAH 30 million in bail. This was reported by the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) on Thursday, June 27.

“The investigative judge of the High Anti-Corruption Court applied a preventive measure to the chairman of one of the district councils in Zakarpattia, a suspect in the case of the sale of 3 hectares of municipal land for next to nothing. Having considered the petition of the NABU detectives, agreed upon by the SAP prosecutor, the court applied a preventive measure to the official in the form of detention with the alternative of posting UAH 30 million in bail,” the report says.

If bail is posted, the suspect will be subject to the relevant procedural obligations.

Also today, the VAKS chose a measure of restraint in the form of detention with the alternative of posting 5 million hryvnia bail for the former head of the city council department in the Zakarpattia region.

And the day before, the HACC chose a measure of restraint for the mayor of Mukachevo, Andriy Baloha – detention with the alternative of bail in the amount of 30 million hryvnia.

Earlier this week, it was reported that law enforcement officers had detained Baloha and Lanyo. They are suspected of abusing their official position in order to sell a plot of land in the city center at a reduced price.

In October 2023, the SBU and NABU already conducted searches at the homes of the persons involved in this case, but the officials were not detained then.
