Court begins hearing Nayem bribery case

MP Andriy Odarchenko intended to bribe the head of the State Agency for the Restoration and Development of Infrastructure.

The Supreme Anti-Corruption Court has begun consideration of the merits of the case against a people’s deputy accused of providing undue benefits to top officials in the recovery sector. This was reported by the press service of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office on Tuesday, June 25.
“The High Anti-Corruption Court has begun hearing the merits of the case against a current people’s deputy of Ukraine, a member of the committee on anti-corruption policy, accused of providing undue benefits to top officials in the area of restoration,” the statement said.
At the hearing, the prosecutor disclosed a summary of the indictment. After that, the panel of judges moved on to examining the evidence provided by the prosecution.
The next meeting is scheduled for 11:00 on June 28.
It was established that the MP made a proposal to the top official to provide him with an undue benefit in exchange for ensuring that the Interdepartmental Working Group made a decision to allocate funds from the Fund for the Elimination of the Consequences of Armed Aggression for the repair of the buildings of the university, where the MP continues to hold the position of rector (whose contract has been suspended). The proposed amount of undue benefit should be 8% of the funding volume.
The deputy then provided the top official with a portion of this illicit benefit in the amount of 0.39 bitcoins, which at the time of the transaction was equivalent to $10,000.
The deputy faces a prison sentence of five to ten years, with or without confiscation of property.
Let us recall that in November 2023, law enforcement officers reported suspicion to a deputy who tried to bribe the head of the State Agency for Reconstruction and Development of Infrastructure, Mustafa Nayem.
The defendant turned out to be deputy Andrey Odarchenko. The court arrested him with the alternative of posting 15 million hryvnias in bail. Bail was posted for Odarchenko, as a result of which he was released from the pretrial detention center.
