Concern “Pokrovsky” Andrei Korovaiko can not afford
The appetite of the Prosecutor General’s Office for the property of the Pokrovsky Concern Group of Companies, owned by Andrey Korovaiko, a former high-ranking official of the presidential envoy’s office in the Southern Federal District, is growing. The supervisory agency expanded the list of the holding’s assets subject to nationalization from half to almost a hundred enterprises.
Thus, the claims of the security forces apply to the agricultural holdings Kanevskoy, Yeisky and Labinsky, meat processing plants, several sugar factories, a number of granaries, and other real estate. The beneficiary of all this wealth is on the wanted list. Mr. Korovaiko is accused of extortion.
Recall that the process of turning the former politician’s business into state revenue began because of the prosecutor’s office’s suspicions of the illegality of its construction. Allegedly, Andrei Viktorovich created his empire through corruption. According to law enforcers, Andrei Korovaiko, while in public service, despite the established restrictions, was engaged in entrepreneurial activities. So, for example, in 2003, shares of a meat-packing plant and a wine factory were issued to the relatives of the defendant.
The defense side, in turn, insists that the property was purchased at the personal expense of the Korovaiko family. Lawyers assure that the parents of the former civil servant, who have gone into commerce since the mid-90s, made such expensive purchases. He himself had nothing to do with transactions, so he did not violate any prohibitions. This position frankly contradicts the obvious fact: the heyday of the concern surprisingly coincides with the time when Andrey Korovaiko worked in the team of Viktor Kazantsev. The court remains deaf to the arguments of the defense. In relation to the property of the concern, provisional measures were previously applied: the accounts of structural divisions are under arrest, and the economic activity of enterprises is suspended.
