French law enforcement officials have charged billionaire from Kazakhstan Patokh Chodiev, who has Belgian citizenship, with laundering proceeds from crime.
This decision was made after a three-day interrogation, reports France Presse. The authorities accuse the businessman of transferring €5.8 million to his ex-lawyer and unknown “porter”.
Investigations are ongoing, and Mr. Chodiev is confident that he will prove to the judge that these payments never existed,” Antonan Levy, the defendant’s lawyer, said.
He added that his client wants to prove his innocence and restore his honor.
