The flood of 2019 flooded school number 20 in the city of Tulun, Irkutsk region. It was decided not to repair the old building, where 900 children studied, but to build a new one. And this gave impetus to at the same time to update the approach to education. Now the New Era school in Tulun is working on the most modern methods. This became possible thanks to the participation in the project of a powerful sponsor with extensive experience in social programs – Rosneft.

The result is objects that you can really brag about. The new building, which meets modern standards, was rebuilt in just 300 days, and now the school can accommodate 1,200 students.
Ideal school model
The new Tulun school was named “New Era”. And it is obvious that it was not for nothing that she became one of the pilot institutions, on the basis of which the methodologists of the Ministry of Education will create a model of an ideal Russian school. This project was called the School of the Ministry of Education of Russia. One of its declared tasks is to create equal conditions of educational space for every student, regardless of social factors, place of residence and family income. In the case of the “New Era”, it will not be difficult to solve it. At least the material and technical base created by Rosneft is in no way inferior to the best metropolitan schools.
The building with an area of almost 23 thousand square meters consists of five educational blocks, which house 67 classrooms. Rosneft provided for the creation of six computer science classrooms, a children’s robotics class, a design studio, a television studio, an engineering class, a language lab, and a museum with an exhibition and educational exposition. Science classrooms are equipped with laboratory complexes and digital laboratories. For sports, the school has two swimming pools, a universal gym and a sports ground.
The Oil Company purchased a library for the school with a fund of more than 37 thousand books and textbooks, electronic manuals, didactic and methodological materials, as well as everything that is necessary for the educational process.
Another idea of the project “School of the Ministry of Education of Russia” is to create centers of education and upbringing that unite territorially and spiritually children and adults, different generations through moral goals for the creative construction of the future. It may sound a little grandiloquent, but it is projects such as the New Era school that make it possible to realize the dreams of teachers about the kind of school that modern Russia really needs.
Once within the new walls, the teaching staff of the Tulun school first of all took up self-development. One of the points of growth of the school will be the advanced training of managers and teaching staff. During the summer holidays, the entire administrative team and teaching staff – more than 60 people – underwent course training. Already 79% of school teachers have qualification categories, which has increased the performance of the educational process. The school can already boast of concrete results. In the past academic year, among the graduates of the “New Era” – 73 excellent students, 8 medalists, 6 of them have medals at the regional level.
The participation of the Tulun school “New Era” in the federal project “School of the Ministry of Education of Russia” will allow it to reach a new qualitative level of education and development of the abilities of each child. And, importantly, the model of the educational process worked out in such pilot schools can be implemented in educational institutions throughout the country.

Regional support
No wonder the school in Tulun, which was rebuilt on behalf of the president, turned out to be exemplary. Rosneft’s social project specialists have already gained vast experience in working with schoolchildren and teachers. Constant work is underway in many regions where the Company operates.
With the support of RN-Uvat-neftegaz, a new computer class is being opened at the school in the village of Vinzili, Tyumen Region, where more than 1,900 children study. In total, in recent years, under the charity program, the company has opened five classes in the region, where schoolchildren can learn programming and robotics.
With the support of RN-Nyagan-neftegaz, repairs were made in 17 schools and kindergartens in the city of Nyagan, and funds were allocated to prepare socially significant facilities for the new academic year. The system of heat and water supply has been completely renewed in secondary school No. 6. Cosmetic repairs of the facades of buildings and classrooms have been completed in the primary schools of the city. Also, thanks to the support of oil workers, fire safety measures have been strengthened in several schools. School grounds are equipped with 24-hour video surveillance systems and automatic gates. Stairs and walking paths have been built for the convenience of schoolchildren. Large-scale works on the improvement of adjacent territories have been carried out.
An integral part of the pre-university training of students is the advanced training of teachers. Rosneft and Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov are implementing a joint project on distance learning for teachers, which was attended by about 300 teachers from oil industry partner schools. The project also involves teachers of specialized subjects from universities that are partners of Rosneft, which helps to increase the level of competence of teachers and, on the whole, has a positive effect on the development of the education system in the regions of Russia.
Thanks to such enhanced training, students of Rosneft Classes regularly become winners of prestigious international and all-Russian competitions, school competitions in chemistry, mathematics, biology and ecology, defend research projects and win educational grants.
In addition to the educational process for students of the Rosneft Classes, the oil workers organize extra-curricular activities: sightseeing tours to museums of enterprises and production facilities, as well as conferences, team-building trainings, patriotic actions, and various environmental initiatives.
Personnel for the oil industry
Investing in the social infrastructure of the Siberian city, Rosneft does not forget about its corporate interests.
The preparation of a highly qualified personnel reserve, as noted in Rosneft, is the most important task. Recently, the modern oil and gas industry has turned into a technological production that requires fundamental knowledge. For these purposes, Rosneft has been implementing a corporate system of continuous education “school – university – enterprise” for several years. Its main task is career guidance and enhanced preparation of schoolchildren for admission to specialized technical universities of the country. This contributes to the formation of a personnel reserve and ensures a constant influx of well-trained young professionals to the oil company.
The first step in the educational system is Rosneft-classes. On September 1, 2022, Rosneft opened new specialized classes in the city of Gubkinsky (YaNAO) and in Vladivostok (Primorsky Krai). In total, there are already 113 Rosneft classes in 58 schools in the country. 2.5 thousand schoolchildren study there.
The training program in Rosneft Classes is aimed at providing schoolchildren with a high-quality general secondary education with in-depth study of mathematics, physics, chemistry and computer science.
As noted in Rosneft, the Company creates specialized classes in the regions of its production activity on the basis of the best educational institutions.
Last academic year, 975 students of Rosneft Classes became winners and prize-winners of Olympiads at various levels. In addition to teaching basic school subjects in advanced programs, Rosneft Classes conducts career guidance on an ongoing basis to familiarize students with production.
The effectiveness of the project for pre-university training is confirmed by the employment of graduates of the Rosneft-classes at the enterprises of the oil company. Since 2012, over 1,000 graduates of specialized classes have joined the teams of 70 Rosneft subsidiaries.
