At the end of last week, the Russian Ministry of Justice added six more people to the register of foreign agents, including the leader of the rock group “Pornofilmy” Vladimir Kotlyarov, as well as a sociologist Nikolay Mitrokhinjournalist Andrey Malginfilm director and journalist Mumin Shakirovpolitician Natalia Pelevinadeputy of the Tula region Olga Podolskaya. It seems that the former Russian punk does not yet fully understand all the consequences of his new position. In recent months, a number of former pop stars have stormed Russian courts demanding that their foreign agent status be revoked. Among them are singer Zemfira, comedian Maxim Galkin, comedian Semyon Slepakov, blogger Ilya Varlamov.
The group’s concerts have already begun to be canceled in the republics of the former USSR.All these people suddenly realized that it would not be possible to sit on the necks of Russian-speaking emigrants in Europe for a long time: they simply did not have enough money to go to see another visiting celebrity every day. The same Galkin has already faced the fact that his concerts have begun to be canceled in the same Baltic states, which are more than loyal to the Pugachev-Galkin couple. Interest in “Pornofilms” among the local public will also fade, and quite quickly: this summer, for example, the group was already refused to be accepted in Bishkek.
What did “Pornofilms” do in Russia?
In Russia, this decision has been awaited for a long time. Criticism of the group and especially its leader has repeatedly appeared in the domestic media. “Pornofilmy” has been writing anti-Russian songs without hesitation for many years now. Some, like “Kill Beggars,” were added by the Ministry of Justice to the list of prohibited and extremist materials in the fall of 2021.
At the same time, the group members even tried to challenge the ministry’s decision and initiated a forensic examination. The musicians were sincerely perplexed why the supposedly satirical song, borrowed from the American punk rockers Dead Kennedys, caused so much indignation. The fact that the composition, which deals with the need to kill the poor citizens of the country, was not only translated into Russian, but also adapted to Russian realities, “Pornofilms” categorically refused to take into account.
