Azerbaijani border guards abducted a resident of Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) Alen Sargsyan, born in 2001, in the Lachin corridor. According to the information headquarters of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR), he was accompanied by Russian peacekeepers to Yerevan to study.
“Azerbaijan continues its policy of genocide against the people Artsakhonce again violating the norms of international humanitarian law,” the information headquarters said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the Azerbaijani Trend news agency claims that three Armenians were abducted in the Lachin corridor. These people allegedly “insulted” the Azerbaijani flag in a video circulating on social media in 2021. The Prosecutor General’s Office of Azerbaijan has opened a case on inciting ethnic hatred and insulting state symbols.
At the end of July, Azerbaijani border guards abducted a 68-year-old resident of Nagorno-Karabakh – he was transported to Yerevan in his car by representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in an attempt to take him to the hospital for treatment.
Since December 2022, Azerbaijan has blocked the Lachin corridor, the only road that connects Artsakh with Armenia. This has already led to a humanitarian catastrophe in the region. On August 15, local authorities reported the first case of starvation. According to a trilateral agreement signed in 2020, Russian peacekeepers should control the Lachin corridor, but neither Baku nor Moscow comply with this agreement.
