Arrested Alfa Nero went to the former director of Google

The authorities of Antigua and Barbuda sold at auction a yacht allegedly owned by PhosAgro owner Andrey Guryev. At one time, its construction cost $ 120 million. Eric Schmidt bought a luxurious boat at half price.

The yacht Alfa Nero has been in the marina of Antigua and Barbuda since February last year. After Andrey Guryev was included in the US sanctions list, the ship was taken under arrest. However, it soon became clear that the authorities of the island state could not afford the maintenance of the 80-meter ship: monthly, 120 thousand dollars fell to maintain the yacht in order. Because Alfa Nero, it was decided to put up for auction.

Andrey Guryev himself (15th place in the Russian Forbes rating, fortune – $ 9.7 billion) at the same time stated that he had nothing to do with the yacht, owned by Tyne Trust and Flagstaff Trust. However, there was an explanation for this. As lawyers pointed out, recognizing Alfa Nero as property could cost Guryev dearly – in this case, he would have to reveal the schemes according to which it belongs to him through a chain of offshore companies. And this would inevitably draw the attention of the authors of the sanctions to other assets of the oligarch. Therefore, it turned out to be more profitable to pretend that the yacht was someone else’s. However, at the last moment, the reluctance to lose $ 120 million took its toll – Andrey Guryev’s daughter tried to challenge the sanctions and claimed her rights to the yacht, but to no avail.

Those wishing to buy Alfa Nero did not have to look for a long time. The vessel, equipped with a 12-meter swimming pool, a helipad, a beauty salon, a beach club and a gym, is included in the top 100 most luxurious yachts in the world. At the same time, today a yacht can cost even more than the amount that was originally paid for it. The fact is that such yachts are being built for several years and the customer has to wait, which is why the finished ship, which you can board right now, is valued more. Therefore, the $67.5 million that Eric Schmidt paid for Alfa Nero can be considered more than a bargain.

This is not the first such case. Last summer, the Gibraltar authorities auctioned off the arrested yacht Axioma, which belonged to billionaire Dmitry Pumpyansky. The organizers of the auction received 115 applications from those wishing to purchase a 72-meter vessel. As a result, Axioma was sold for only 37.5 million dollars.
