The Investigative Committee of Russia (TFR) closed one of the criminal cases against the former head of the board of directors of the Krasnoyarsk Aluminum Plant (KraAZ) Anatoly Bykov. The businessman, already sentenced to 13 years for contract killings, was accused of leading an organized criminal community. Although the former aluminum tycoon did not plead guilty, he petitioned for the dismissal of the case with the wording “because of the statute of limitations”, noting that he did not really believe in justice.
The Krasnoyarsk Department of the ICR has terminated the criminal case against the former head of the board of directors of KraAZ and ex-deputy of the regional legislative assembly Anatoly Bykov on the leadership of an organized criminal community (OPS). This was reported in the investigative department.
According to the materials of the investigation, from January 1, 1997 to June 19, 2002, the businessman single-handedly led the criminal organization he had created.
In June 1998, according to the prosecution, the businessman organized the murder of a 48-year-old resident of Krasnoyarsk.
“Three members of the criminal community found two gas pistols converted to fire live ammunition, tracked down the victim for several days, after which, at night on June 18, 1998, near the house 187 on Timoshenkov Street, two members fired at least six fatal shots at the man,” it says. in the information of the TFR. As it became known, we are talking about the murder of a major criminal authority Vladimir Filippov (Philip), and the reprisal against him, the investigation believes, was allegedly needed by the businessman in order to “support and increase his influence among the leaders and members of organized criminal groups.”
In August 2022, the former aluminum tycoon was charged with leading an organized crime group (part 1 of article 210 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), murder (part 2 of article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). “After Anatoly Bykov got acquainted with the materials of the investigation, he filed a petition for a partial termination of the criminal case under Art. 210 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation on a non-rehabilitating basis due to the expiration of the statute of limitations for criminal prosecution (under this article of the Criminal Code it is 15 years. – “Kommersant”),” the TFR department said. This request was granted. At the same time, the ex-head of KraAZ denies his involvement in the alleged acts, considering this and other criminal cases against him “politically motivated.”
The businessman argued his petition to dismiss the case by the fact that he does not believe in justice.
“Starting from 2020, I have already gone through two trials in similar criminal cases and, by personal example, became convinced that the current state of justice, especially in criminal cases against persons prosecuted for political reasons, does not leave much hope for the opportunity to justify and refute the accusations,” the entrepreneur, who has been in the Krasnoyarsk pre-trial detention center since May 2020, said in a statement.
Anatoly Bykov was sentenced by the Sverdlovsk District Court of Krasnoyarsk in September 2021. Based on the verdict of the jury, who found the businessman guilty of organizing the murder of two businessmen, the former head of KraAZ was sentenced to 13 years in prison. Now over the businessman passes the second litigation. He is charged with inciting the murder of businessman Andrey Nekolov and the assassination attempt on the vice-president of the regional boxing federation Andrey Grabovsky. The trial of this case is in its final stages.
