According to the department, the court turned property into the income of the Russian Federation – land plots, houses, apartments and cars, including the premium segment, with a total value of about 180 million rubles.
The execution of the court decision is under the control of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation.
As RBC Kavkaz reported, in July 2021, the investigating authorities opened a criminal case under Part 6 of Art. 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Taking a bribe on an especially large scale) in relation to an organized group led by the head of the UGIBDD of Russia for the Stavropol Territory Alexei Safonov.
According to the investigation, over the course of several years, the members of the group made passes not provided for by any regulatory acts, which they distributed for a monetary reward among persons carrying out cargo transportation of grain crops and inert cargo in the territory of the region. As a result of the crimes committed, the group members received a bribe on an especially large scale for a total of 19 million rubles.
Safonov and six members of the group, including Alexander Arzhanukhin, former head of the UGIBDD department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Territory, Vitaly Melchikov, inspector of the UGIBDD of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for Stavropol, and four civilians, were detained.
In December 2021, the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Igor Krasnov, in an interview with RIA Novosti, said that the head of the traffic police department for Stavropol Alexei Safonov, in addition to the mansion with the “golden toilet”, found 21 more real estate and six cars.
According to Krasnov, the property was issued both to Safonov himself and to his relatives and close associates.
In August 2022, the Industrial District Court of Stavropol satisfied the claim of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia on the transfer to the state of the property of the ex-head of the UGIBDD of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Stavropol Territory, Alexei Safonov, worth 180 million rubles.
In November, the media reported that 20 new criminal cases were opened against Alexei Safonov and his subordinates under articles on taking bribes. And in December it became known that against the former head of the traffic police of the Stavropol Territory and his accomplices, investigators established 119 new episodes of receiving bribes.
