A criminal case has been opened on the fact of a massive accident involving nine cars, which was provoked by billionaire Alexei Shepel. The businessman himself said that he was in the hospital in serious condition with a heart attack.
According to the media, citing sources in law enforcement agencies, after a major accident at the intersection of Rublevskoye Highway and Krasnye Zor Street in western Moscow, which occurred this week, a criminal case was initiated on a violation of traffic rules, which negligently caused grievous bodily harm to a person (part 1 of article 1 article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). This offense is punishable by up to two years in prison.
The press service of the metropolitan traffic police confirmed this information. According to the department, nine cars were involved in the accident, including a Mercedes, the driver of which, presumably, provoked the accident. There were also reported three casualties. Four people were injured, three of them were diagnosed with severe injuries and multiple fractures. As for the fourth victim, this is billionaire Alexei Shepel, who owns the development company S.Holding. It was he, presumably, who was driving the Mercedes. The entrepreneur received a closed craniocerebral injury and concussion. In addition, in the hospital, where Shepel was taken by helicopter, he was diagnosed with pneumonia. According to media reports, there is currently no threat to the businessman’s life. Law enforcement officers establish all the circumstances of the incident.
Recall that the accident happened on Tuesday afternoon. At the intersection of Krasnye Zor Street and Rublevsky Highway, nine cars collided – a truck and eight cars. According to the source, according to preliminary data, Aleksey Shepel could not cope with driving and provoked a mass accident. Eyewitnesses speak about the same. According to witnesses, Mercedes was moving at a speed exceeding the permitted. Recordings from CCTV cameras and testimonies of witnesses indicate that the billionaire’s foreign car was moving in the far left lane towards the exit from Moscow. The driver changed lanes, and during the maneuver, the car first hit one car, then crashed into others.
The driver, in whose eyes the accident unfolded, said that the Mercedes literally flew past him, then hit the taxi, and after that “everything started spinning”: Lada Largus, another taxi car, Toyota Highlander and other cars suffered. Eyewitnesses noted that two girls who were driving in Volkswagen and Toyota cars received serious injuries. As for the Mercedes driver, he did not get out of the car for some time, remaining behind the wheel. When the traffic police inspector approached him, Shepel allegedly showed him some kind of certificate.
By the way, the billionaire’s car has repeatedly come across for traffic violations: since the beginning of 2022, Mercedes has managed to “catch” eight fines for violating the speed limit on the road.
Shepel himself said the following about the accident: “I was driving. The path kept from work from the “City” in the direction of Rublyovka home. I was driving at low speed, drove under the bridge, there was a blow, and I don’t remember anything.”
The businessman also told reporters that he was in intensive care in a serious condition, and he had a heart attack.
