Absenteeism did not help the contractor to retire from military service

This decision was made by the St. Petersburg Garrison Military Court, the joint press service of the city courts reports.

The court found the serviceman guilty of several episodes of evasion from service (part 2.1 and part 3.1 of article 337 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), as well as failure to appear for service without good reason within a month (part 5 of article 337 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). According to the joint press service of the city courts, the young man “ran away” to the girl from the service five times since October 21, 2022.

“At the hearing, the defendant fully pleaded guilty. He explained that in the spring of 2022 he decided to retire from military service before the expiration of the contract. To speed up the resolution of the issue of dismissal, he began to deliberately violate military discipline. In this regard, in May 2022, the command of the military unit made a decision on his early dismissal,” the message says. However, he was not subsequently fired. “After the announcement of partial mobilization, he realized that the issue of dismissal from military service would not be positively considered. At the same time, mistakenly believing that if he did not enter the service, he would still be fired, he began to commit criminal acts related to military service evasion,” the joint press service of the courts added.

In total, the garrison military courts of St. Petersburg in April announced 16 verdicts against persons who arbitrarily left the military unit and wished to temporarily evade military service duties in the NMD, the report says. For comparison, for the entire period from September 24, 2022 to March 30, 2023, 13 such verdicts were announced. The courts imposed sentences on these charges in the form of imprisonment for a term of 1 to 6 years in a penal colony.
