A US court sentenced Russian Klyushin to nine years in prison
A court in Boston, America, sentenced Russian Vladislav Klyushin to nine years in prison.
Judge Patty Saris said the defense’s request for three years “downplays the seriousness” of the crimes with their “complex geography” and fails to address the need to create a “deterrent” factor that would deter would-be imitators. At the same time, she acknowledged the presence of mitigating circumstances – the defendant’s lack of criminal history and his active participation in charitable activities.
Last September, Klyushin’s lawyers discovered errors in the testimony of FBI agent B.J. Kang. According to the information that came to light, he unreasonably obtained a search warrant from a Russian, based only on possible similarities with the transactions of another defendant in the case. The defense asked to exclude the insider trading counts from the charges, but the court ultimately granted only part of the requests.
