The founder of Sbermarket, Dmitry Zhulin, was hospitalized along with his girlfriend, a fifth-year medical student. She passed away.
Dmitry Zhulin is 33 years old, he is a graduate of Baumanka, in 2013, together with his brother and friend, he created the Instamart service. Subsequently, Sberbank invested in it. It is known about his beloved that she studied at Sechenov University, she was 22 years old. In social networks, she called herself a preventive medicine doctor and health coach.
According to the UK, the girl, together with a young man, made droppers with an immunomodulator in order to increase immunity after suffering a covid. On March 14, the couple was hospitalized. The girl, according to media reports, began pulmonary edema, septic shock and blood poisoning. On March 25, she died in the hospital. Zhulin is already preparing for discharge.
According to preliminary data, the drug used by the couple is called Laennec. In pharmacies, the price of a package is from 15 thousand to 20 thousand rubles. This Japanese medicine is quite popular. “Today, 28 units have been sold,” the website of one of the pharmacies says. Sold by prescription. The drug is a hydrolyzate of the human placenta. What does this mean, explains Sergey Kiselev, professor, head of the laboratory of cellular technologies at the Vavilov Institute of General Genetics:
“A human placenta is taken, crushed, roughly speaking, something is squeezed out of it, and then it is applied. This is what I can understand from the information on the Laennec website. Side effects are observed in approximately 3.7% – that is, almost 4% of patients. This is quite high (number). The main thing is that it is not clear why he is generally appointed in principle. It is called an immunomodulator and hepatoprotector, that is, it has a positive effect on the liver.
The official Russian instructions, approved by the Ministry of Health, say that this drug is used to treat serious liver diseases, atopic dermatitis and recurrent herpes. On the website of the Japanese manufacturer, only liver diseases are indicated. But, judging by the reviews in Runet, many, mostly girls, use this medicine not for its intended purpose, but as a drug for rejuvenation and healing. Although there are no official medical indications for this.
Strong allergic reactions and other immune-related complications can be expected from such a biological preparation, says Nikolai Kryuchkov, director of the contract research company Clinical Excellence Group:
“The manufacturer himself, at least on his official website, claims that he cannot 100% guarantee infectious safety. Those methods of processing, sterilization that are used – steam sterilization at high temperature for 20 minutes at 100 degrees Celsius – does not completely clean all placental cells before further processing. On the one hand, we have a drug that is ineffective for rejuvenation. On the other hand, we see that the security profile, although quite high, is still not one hundred percent. In this case, of course, the risk far outweighs the benefit. And another significant point – such drugs are used as part of some droppers or health (youth) cocktails. A combined hodgepodge of various preparations is kneaded there. That is, these are vitamins, and micro- and macroelements, and other immunomodulators. And when we mix such drugs in a variety of ways with different dosages, we must understand that the effectiveness and safety of such mixtures, in principle, have not been studied more or less fully in clinical trials.
Fascination with droppers has recently become popular in secular Moscow. And demand has formed a supply, for which qualified specialists with medical education are far from always responsible.
